Jake Huckerby

Jake loves sport so much he spent 3 years studying a sports science degree at university before qualifying as a personal trainer. He is also footy fanatic and can’t resist a banging burger… so much so he has his own insta page dedicated to rating burgers around the island! Jake is super passionate about helping people on their fitness journey and building their confidence.

“I really like to motivate people and it is great when you see clients push through their boundaries. My role is to encourage, drive and help people in my sessions to believe that they can do it. Often people are surprised that they can achieve more than they think they can. When you train with a PT you can always keep going and train harder!”

Jake believes that it isn’t about the way you look, it is about the way you feel, and everyone is welcome. Whether you want to build muscle, maintain fitness, lose weight, or if you are working towards a personal fitness goal, Jake can work with you to help you achieve your ambitions. For him, it is about finding ways to build fitness into your lifestyle, in an achievable way.

“I really am passionate about having an impact on people’s lives. My favourite motivational catchphrase is stolen from the legend Michael Jordan: ‘Some people want it to happen. Some wish it would happen. Others make it happen.’ This is how I approach everything I do.”

Jake wants people to enjoy themselves when they work out, “I think the Funktion gym is really inclusive, in terms of its culture and the layout of the space itself. There are different groups and individuals all training at any one time. There is plenty of banter and fun. I love it!”

Jake takes 1:2:1 sessions, group classes and he can also deliver online training if that is more convenient.

Best dance move: I go out clubbing with my friends, but you are more likely to find me at the bar than dancing to be honest.

What do people not know about you? : I love to eat pickles from a jar. If I go to McDonalds – I order extra pickles on my burger.

“I really enjoy bootcamp each morning, and I train with a group who are between the ages of 25 and 62; it’s fantastic. All the trainers are so enthusiastic, welcoming and they get the best out of you.”
