Aimee Purgal

Aimee’s love for sport began when she was just a year old when she sat on a horse for the first time. She grew up riding and competing in show jumping competitions until she was sixteen. Aimee’s passion now is preventative exercise, increasing people’s mobility and working with exercise referral clients and people who have long-term neurological conditions. She is also super creative, and she loves nothing more than sitting down to knit a jumper in her spare time.

Aimee qualified as PT in London in 2015 qualified and then worked at Gym Box at Old Street, but she missed Jersey, so she returned to the island and has been working here since, gaining further qualifications and experience.

“When I was in my early 20s my goal then was to help people lose weight, but over the years my focus has shifted to rehabilitation. I enjoy working with a wide range of clients of all abilities and needs and as a level 4 speciality coach I support and train people who have Parkinson’s or have suffered a spinal injury or a stroke, and I also work with clients who are clinically obese and who have diabetes.”

Aimee is a people person and will put you at ease straight away, whether that is in a 1:2:1 session or a class. She always makes her sessions accessible and fun, and she focuses on technique.

“I don’t give exercises for the sake of it, I plan my sessions, so they are specific for the client It is so rewarding to see people achieve their goals, it is such a sense of achievement for them and for me. I can also support clients with sports massage. It is great to get to know people well and how best to work on people and factor that into their programmes.”

Aimee likes working with clients in the Funktion gym because it is not too big, and you can work out without feeling that you are being watched.

“There is such a sense of community. All the people who work here are lovely, they are kind and welcoming and there is no intimidation at all. It feels like family.”

Here are a few fun facts about Aimee:

Favourite food: Haribo strawberries sweets and I love to cook. My favourite dish is seafood linguine.

Best dance move: I am an awkward dancer, to be honest, but I do love a boogie.

Favourite neon colour: Orange.

Favourite tune to work out to: Drum & base.

Girl crush: Beyonce.

Boy crush: Idris Elba.

Favourite motivational catchphrase: I believe in you. You’ve got this.

“I really enjoy bootcamp each morning, and I train with a group who are between the ages of 25 and 62; it’s fantastic. All the trainers are so enthusiastic, welcoming and they get the best out of you.”

Andy
“As a ‘plus size’ woman, it can be intimidating to go to a gym for fear of being judged. In the past, I have worked with PTs who have made the assumption that my goal is purely weight loss, which is pretty patronising when my actual goals are around strength, mobility and confidence! It’s not everyone’s goal to simply get skinny! Funktion has tailored a programme bespoke to me and my goals, without a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.”

Steph
“I keep coming back to Funktion because I get results. I’m fitter, stronger and better than I would be otherwise and have less pain from injuries. The functional rehab training I have received is phenomenal. I have gone from being on crutches to extreme sports.”

Robin
“If you want a tailored individual approach and want immediate impact, then you should come to Funktion. The personal trainers’ combined knowledge is exceptional.”

Neil
“I was recommended Funktion by a physio to assist with some strength and conditioning as I had a bad back from too much office chair sitting. Through innovative sessions I have seen amazing results and have had no concerns in the last couple of years.”

Tom
“I think Funktion Fitness is a winner because of the professional yet fun approach of the PT team.”
